Please take a look at their web page(see the link to stanncreekchess on the top right side of this page) to see their district calendar of events, chess puzzles, contact information....and to get the feel of how much those volunteers were able to achieve in a very short period of time.. despite of shortage of chess equipment, despite of all the coaches having full time jobs and families. They do what needs to be done and beyond...<br />We hope that their initiative to organize themselves into an active DISTRICT club and create their own page to share the chess life in Stann Creek with others will inspire other districts to do the same....Belize National Youth Chess Foundation, affiliated with BCFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08938128893788555954noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-568089820777683029.post-57667429115619613382008-01-27T19:02:00.000-08:002008-01-28T18:30:56.352-08:00January 2008 events<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSquHi2QXHXoQQrx-X7U2FtKJulObrQF3m13dMjxPGw9D0b5REDZ41kj6zUK9L04HaEfLNPRChgmtuwX-PnyjkoIJburpvaPtEJoJnt8JHYT_cQh29ZuHd6rEwVI_G32rGOdS5PJryStA/s1600-h/st.barnabas+club.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSquHi2QXHXoQQrx-X7U2FtKJulObrQF3m13dMjxPGw9D0b5REDZ41kj6zUK9L04HaEfLNPRChgmtuwX-PnyjkoIJburpvaPtEJoJnt8JHYT_cQh29ZuHd6rEwVI_G32rGOdS5PJryStA/s400/st.barnabas+club.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160360723262590642" border="0" /></a><span style="color: rgb(153, 0, 0);">St. Barnabas, Cayo, Belize, club members in front of their school.</span><br />Postal International games between Belize and New York continues. Rotarians Maria and Alvin Cabral hosted this event, and are planning to follow up with the weekly chess club days for the Placencia kids. Their son Mikhail is one of our youngest coaches was actively involved in coaching the kids during the Sunday practice games.<br /> The morning started with Ian Anderson conducting a shell collection competition with the kids on the beach, while we were getting the site ready. After that, David Martinez, BNYCF Tournament Director and Irianie Pech, along with Ella Anderson did the review of the basics in the morning session, which followed with the lunch and slide show.<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT3W8uB2Mfs2iCnguQs50XK-s0YELWcksODpjS2lTlgvPuIpo3rS7i2hPiEd-HO2X8epJvllqcGyPrpL4DyDfZtCI1ly94_YqMLlP2hwc4zq6M0Iz8qglVU8UWMk9K7GiATwHr8q3nCO0/s1600-h/P1060832.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT3W8uB2Mfs2iCnguQs50XK-s0YELWcksODpjS2lTlgvPuIpo3rS7i2hPiEd-HO2X8epJvllqcGyPrpL4DyDfZtCI1ly94_YqMLlP2hwc4zq6M0Iz8qglVU8UWMk9K7GiATwHr8q3nCO0/s400/P1060832.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126578729689605026" border="0" /></a><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjbScV7aVgtANlj0rPc7JFM0cU1l024XfofaLnc-NPiV8One9q7FNEn46KIN5J-lPZUnqzVAVHZ4a_jOlL7DBYs6C0svoTqcl6AqxD7X3oxfFe-Mv8Z-yuHtGbAjSKjjAy1udjQJVUvwA/s1600-h/P1060838.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjjbScV7aVgtANlj0rPc7JFM0cU1l024XfofaLnc-NPiV8One9q7FNEn46KIN5J-lPZUnqzVAVHZ4a_jOlL7DBYs6C0svoTqcl6AqxD7X3oxfFe-Mv8Z-yuHtGbAjSKjjAy1udjQJVUvwA/s400/P1060838.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126578742574506946" border="0" /></a>As the practice games were progressing, kids needed constant attention from the coaches, as well as community Volunteers. Micah Williams, who is a coach for Hopkins and Dangriga kids, brought with him Brian and Debbie, who became actively involved in the development of chess in their community. One of the chess players, Silvano, challenged the visitors from Great Britain for a game, who were on their travel around the world. <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCEZrZbxxpjMzpGgpGTs6El_UK86Ld8J5Mg1DTGkURu7YOOo2VdLZEwWTiqcuNPqwUk9IWGQR9FWMEZKdmEFnYJDh7KnsIsANnI5nYkrrcoNS6I-GpisfHZZ9AMZ1q9PQ3nkVgy0YTHMo/s1600-h/P1060436.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCEZrZbxxpjMzpGgpGTs6El_UK86Ld8J5Mg1DTGkURu7YOOo2VdLZEwWTiqcuNPqwUk9IWGQR9FWMEZKdmEFnYJDh7KnsIsANnI5nYkrrcoNS6I-GpisfHZZ9AMZ1q9PQ3nkVgy0YTHMo/s400/P1060436.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126554201131377298" border="0" /></a> Rich and Bonie heard about the program while their stay in Belize, and stopped by to see it. Rich who is a social worker himself, and has tons of experience of dealing with the troubled youngsters, agrees that the best way to prevent future trouble, is to give attention to the kids at an early age. Rich plays chess since he was a child, and was pleasantly surprised to see that Silvano developed enough confidence to ask him for a game, and even lasted for 15 minutes of the game. Our visitors continued with their travel around the world with a long lasting image of the Belizian kids playing chess.Belize National Youth Chess Foundation, affiliated with BCFhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08938128893788555954noreply@blogger.com
